Privacy Policy

This policy explains what personal information aroundmv (aroundmv, "we") collects, why, who can see it, and the choices you have. It applies to https://around.mv and our apps.

What we collect

When you create an account: your name, email address and password (stored encrypted), and optionally a phone number and your home island.

When you post or take part: your posts, photos, requests, responses, job applications (with any contact details you choose to share), saved items, follows, reports and messages.

For businesses and organizations: profile details, team members, and verification documents such as registration certificates, letters and ID cards.

Automatically: the place you choose to browse (we don't collect your device's GPS location), your theme preference, and basic technical information such as IP address, browser and device type. We count visits and clicks on posts and business profiles to give businesses simple statistics; these counts are pseudonymous and exclude bots.

For notifications: if you turn on browser or app notifications, a device token so we can deliver them.

We remove location data (such as GPS tags) from the public versions of photos you upload.

How we use it

• To run aroundmv: show posts to people nearby, deliver messages, alerts and notifications, and match requests with businesses.
• To keep aroundmv safe: moderation, verification, preventing spam and fraud, and enforcing our Terms of Use.
• To give businesses statistics about views and contacts, without identifying individual visitors.
• To send service emails (account, security, verification). Marketing messages are only sent if you opt in, and you can opt out at any time.
• To meet legal obligations.

What others can see

• Community posts show your first name and last initial (for example "Aishath R."). Your email address and phone number are never shown publicly. Replies to your requests come to you privately.
• Business and organization profiles and their posts are public, including the contact details they choose to publish.
• Messages are visible only to the people in the conversation, and to our moderators if a conversation is reported.
• Verification documents are private. Only our verification reviewers can open them, and every view is logged.

Who we share it with

We don't sell your personal information. We share it only:

• with service providers that run aroundmv for us, such as hosting (Laravel Cloud), file storage (Cloudflare), email delivery and push notification services, under agreements that protect it;
• with a business or organization when you choose to contact them, apply for a job or respond to a request;
• with authorities when the law requires it, or to protect someone's safety.

Some providers store data outside the Maldives. We choose providers with strong security and privacy protections.

Cookies

We use a few essential cookies: to keep you signed in, protect forms from misuse, and remember your chosen place and theme.

We also use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used, such as which pages are visited and roughly where visitors come from. It sets its own cookies and Google processes that data under its privacy policy. You can opt out with Google's browser add-on or by blocking these cookies in your browser. We don't use advertising cookies.

How long we keep it

• Account and profile information: while your account is open.
• Posts: until you delete them or they're removed; ended posts stay visible to you.
• Detailed visit records: 90 days, after which only daily totals remain.
• Notification device tokens: until you turn notifications off, or 180 days without use.
• Verification documents and moderation records: as long as needed for audits, safety and legal obligations.
• When you delete your account, your personal posts are taken down and your name, email address and phone number are erased straight away, along with your saved items, follows and notification settings. Messages you already sent stay in the other person's conversation, shown as "Deleted user". Moderation and audit records are kept where the law or a safety investigation requires it.

Your choices and rights

• See and download your information from Account → Your data → Export data.
• Correct your details in your account settings.
• Delete your account from Settings → Profile. If you're the only owner of a business or admin of an organization, hand it over to someone else first.
• Control notifications and alerts in your account, and turn marketing messages on or off at any time.
• Ask us about anything in this policy at hello@around.mv.

Children

aroundmv is not for children under 16. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we'll remove it.

Security

We use encryption in transit, encrypted passwords, private storage for sensitive files, access controls and audit logs. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects you, we'll tell you promptly.

Changes

If we make important changes to this policy, we'll tell you on the site or by email before they apply.
